As of 29 May 2022, the Singapore government no longer issues physical birth certificates. Instead, birth registration can be done via the LifeSG app. You can also use the LifeSG app to fill in the details required to qualify for the baby bonus grants.
In this article, we will provide a guide to how you can apply for your child’s birth certificate via the LifeSG app. The birth certificate registration is a relatively straightforward process that should take about 10 to 15 minutes to complete.
Open the LifeSG app. You should be able to see the service to apply for birth registration and Baby Bonus. Tap on it.
Check if you can use the service
You will need the following information to complete the birth registration smoothly.
Once you proceed, you will see your personal details pre-filled. You can’t edit these details.
You will be required to fill in your spouse’s information.
The system will automatically know the gender, date and time of your child’s birth. So you can only register after your child is delivered. Fill in your child’s details and avoid making any typos.
Next, you will need to fill in the bank details for the baby grant and the CDA. For the baby grant, you can put your own bank account. For the CDA, you have to choose one of the local banks (DBS/OCBC/UOB) to open your account with. The account will be opened automatically via the app. You do not need to head to the bank branch separately.

Make the necessary declaration if applicable and review all the details provided once again. Check carefully. You do not want to make any mistakes that need to be rectified later.
As an added convenience, you can choose to sign your baby up to be a library member. After all, it’s never too young to start reading right?
After you have completed the registration. The last step is probably the easiest to miss out on. Your spouse has to consent to the birth registration. Get him/her to do it as quickly as possible before the two of you forget. There is a deadline which appears to be within 30 days.
Once your spouse has consented, the birth certificate application is done. You can now look forward to receiving the baby bonus grants, receiving updates from the National Library Board once the membership status is approved, and even applying online for your child’s first passport.
