Changi Airport is an icon of Singapore. Not just because it won first place in being the world’s best airport from 2013 – 2020 and numerous other times throughout the decades, but by becoming a shopping destination for locals and travellers alike. With the opening of Jewel in 2019 and the upcoming (but postponed) construction of Terminal 5 this year, Changi Airport will once again be filled with shoppers, travellers and the occasional student looking for study space.
For those who are looking to study at the airport, make the airport a shopping destination or go back for your weekly grocery shopping, using the Changi Rewards Programme will be a surefire way to earn while you spend. It is more than just a loyalty card. With perks that will alleviate your shopping experience, it will make your travelling experience at Changi Airport a much more luxurious one.

Buy Products With No GST Attached
The words “duty-free” normally refer to purchases that do not have a government tax on them and are usually found in departure terminals of airports and passenger ship terminals. By using the Changi Rewards Card, you can purchase products in a public area that has no GST attached to them. Take note though that there are two types of shops when it comes to GST-absorbed shopping.
The first is GST-exclusive shops. These shops do not have GST included in their prices. Therefore, the rewards work by deducting 7% (GST as of 2022) of the original product price, followed by taxing 7% of the new product price.

The second type of shop is a GST-inclusive shop. Since GST is already included in the original price of the product, the Changi Rewards card will deduct the 7% off, and that will be the final amount payable.

Redeem Rebates, Products And Services Using Points Earned Whilst Spending
Similar to reward cards like the NTUC Link rewards card, the Changi Rewards card works almost in the same way. A “member” tier member will earn 10 points for every $10 spent, the “Gold” tier will earn 20 points for every $10 and finally, the “Platinum” member will garner 60 points for every $10 spent.
To achieve the Gold tier, you have to spend a minimum of $4,000 per assessment period whilst the Platinum tier requires you to spend $8,000 in the same period. The “assessment period” as mentioned depends on when you signed up. For example, if you signed up for the Changi Rewards Programme on the 1st of July 2022, the assessment period will end one year later at the end of July (31st July 2023).
These points earned allow you to redeem rewards from the rewards catalogue such as food vouchers, a Doctor Anywhere home-based PCR test (Which is great if you are planning to travel), rebates, and even use the airport lounge.
Before you go nuts on splurging your hard-earned money, do note that there is a maximum cap of points that you can earn in a single receipt. As of 1st April 2022, a maximum amount of $5,000 nett spend cap in a single receipt will be implemented. On top of that, not all outlets participate in the Changi rewards programme and items such as tobacco products, car rental and medical services purchased do not count in accumulating points.
You Can Earn Points And Offset GST Taxes Whilst Shopping Online
