7 Car Care And Grooming Services In Malaysia And How Much Cheaper Are They Compared To Singapore

In Malaysia, one can service his or her car at either an authorised dealership, an independent workshop or even petrol stations. As holiday season nears, some may want to service their car to ensure a smooth drive for a road trip and many independent workshops in Malaysia offer car care and grooming services. Some cars that come with a computerised engine can only be repaired at the official dealership that has the access to the technologies required.

There are many types of car maintenance works that you can do in Malaysia that will not take too long such as checking your battery performance or getting a new car wrap.

Some drivers like to send their car to the car care and grooming shop during a long road trip. They can also check on the other aspects of the car such as tire pressure, motor oil, oil filter and car lights.

#1 Car Wash

Keeping the internal part of your car is vital but it’s also important to maintain the outer part of your vehicle such as securing your car paint from dust and rust.

Aside from washing and vacuuming your car, some car wash shops provide complementing services such as anti-bacteria treatment for leather and cushion seats.

#2 Car Polish And Wax

To ensure that the external part of your car is in tip top condition, you may need extra services such as polishing to remove scratches and coasting your vehicle with a protective layer of wax.

You can send your car to Baywash Auto Detailing Specialist Centre in the Klang Valley region of Malaysia for these services. For a single layer of wax, you will be charged RM70 (S$20.02) while adding a second and third layer will set you back by RM130 (S$37.18) and RM140 (S$40.04).

Basic polishing costs RM160 (S$45.76) and if you require more detailed polishing, the medium and perfect cut polishing services cost RM260 (S$74.36) and RM460 (S$131.57) each. There is also a glass coating service priced at RM1,800 (S$514.82).

Finest Detailing Express in Singapore also offers polishing from S$35 and has a package that includes myriad services including polishing and coating for S$199.

#3 Car Wrap

If you didn’t know, you can wrap your car body to reduce the chances of it getting scratched, exposed to chemicals and dust.

The process begins with an examination of existing dents and scratches and if your car has them, you will be advised to fix them before wrapping. Then, the car will be cleaned and polished before wrapping.

The price to wrap your car in Malaysia typically starts from RM500 (S$143.44) to RM5,000 (S$1,434.36) . New Age Polish in Singapore offers paint protection film wrapping services that cost from S$1,800.

#4 Window Tint

The common types of window tint in Malaysia are ceramic, crystalline and FX-HP series. The ceramic tint which uses ceramic materials is one of the most luxurious kinds for its heat resistance.

The crystalline tint does not peruse metal components and the FX-HP series use charcoal to block off up to 99% of UV rays. Installing window tint is something many new car owners do to avoid overheating and uncomfortable glaring given that we live in countries with sunny weather.

Lavish Film offers ceramic tint packages priced from RM1,200 (S$343.21) to RM3,400 (S$972.44) for all windows with warranty at its headquarters in Puchong, several outlets in the Klang Valley region as well as in states like Johor, Penang and Perak.

Meanwhile, Infratint Singapore has ceramic tint packages that cost from S$488 to S$1,088 that include sunroof and warranty.

#5 Tyre Change

Being exposed to various conditions from rocky tar roads to muddy trails, the tyres of your vehicle need to be checked to ensure they’re in good condition.

According to Michelin Malaysia, a tyre has an approximate lifetime of 10 years after which requires change. Drivers should also check their tyres once a month as it’s normal for tyres to lose air and the tyre pressure needs to be in optimal condition.

Usually, the bigger the tyre, the more expensive they are. For instance, a size 13 Continental tyre cost RM243 (S$69.50) at Lim Tayar, whose outlets are mainly in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor in Malaysia, inclusive of installation fees, while a size 16 Continental tyre is priced at RM338 (S$96.67).

Arrow Tyres in Singapore offers new tyres at the price of S$60 onwards.

#6 Oil Change

Engine oil is important because it sustains the performance of the engine, one of the hardest working components in your vehicle, by lubricating the metal parts of the engine so there is less friction, cleaning and cooling the engine. Topping up the engine oil is also probably one of the easiest things you can do to protect your car so much so you can do it yourself – and it only takes around 30 minutes.

There are three different types of oils namely the pure synthetic oil, semi-synthetic oil and conventional oils. The pure synthetic oil is the costliest out of the three and offers the most protection for your engine.

Lim Tayar, a car servicing centre in Malaysia, offers oil change packages inclusive of labour priced from RM186 (S$53.20) to RM357 (S$102.11). Meanwhile, Car Care Centre in Singapore offers oil change services from S$65 to S$198.

#7 Petrol Refill

Depending on how often you drive your car, petrol refill is one of the occasional things you will need to do for your car. RON or Research Octane Number determines the performance of the petrol.

There are two main types of unleaded petrol in Malaysia which are the RON95 and RON97. Do note that drivers with a Singaporean car can only refill RON97 petrol and are not allowed to refill RON95 petrol in Malaysia.

The RON97 has a higher compression ratio, making it less susceptible to knocking or exploding under high pressure. It’s not necessary that using the RON97 will give you better performance. However, if you own a car that has a high-performing engine with 2,500 cc capacity and above, you should use the RON97. At the time of writing, petrol price in Malaysia is RM3.47 (S$0.99) for RON97 petrol.

Meanwhile, fuel price in Singapore is S$3.61 for RON98.
