Genting Highlands is one of the top tourist destinations in Malaysia with its main attractions being managed by conglomerate Genting Group. According to Genting Malaysia’s report, the company received more than 31 million visitors along with RM8.6 billion in net sales for the year 2022, which surpassed its target of 30 million visitors.
No discussion of Genting Highlands can be complete without mentioning the late founder of Genting Group, Lim Goh Tong who is credited with the tourism success of the once vacant highlands in the state of Pahang.
The visionary entrepreneur wanted to build a mountaintop resort that’s close to Kuala Lumpur city centre where people can get away from city life and enjoy dining and entertainment in a nature environment surrounded by greeneries and cool weather.
The journey to developing Genting Highlands which is 1,830 metres above sea level started back in 1965. Genting Group had to literally pave the way to the highlands by building easy-to-drive on roads that connect Genting Sempah to Mount Ulu Kali. The group was then awarded the only gaming licence in the country by the government, making it a one-of-a-kind destination.
Being only an hour drive away from Kuala Lumpur, Genting Highlands is perfect for a getaway with various entertainment spots including an outdoor theme park, shopping outlets, international restaurants and casinos.
In 2017, the popular destination was given a transformation with exciting additions including the Genting SkyWorlds theme park, SkyAvenue Complex mall and Crockfords Hotel.
