Our military defence is one of our six pillars of Total Defence in keeping Singapore and its people safe, strong and independent. Since the National Service (Amendment) Bill was passed on 14 March 1967, over 900,000 male Singaporeans have served NS.
This year marks the 55th anniversary of National Service and, in commemoration the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will give out the NS55 Recognition Package (RP) from mid-June to past and present national servicemen who have contributed to Singapore’s defence and security.
The RP consists of NS55 digital credits worth $100 as well as a one-year free SAFRA/HomeTeamNS membership that needs to be registered before 31 December 2022.
Here’s what you need to know about how to redeem and use your digital credits.
Who Is Eligible For NS55 Digital Credits?
The NS55 Recognition Package (RP) which will be mailed to all eligible national servicemen from mid-June 2022, is given to all past and present NSmen, including those who are serving or have served their Operationally Ready National Service (ORNS).
Additionally, full-time national servicemen (NSF) who enlist by 31 December 2022 will also be eligible for the RP.

How To Redeem Your NS55 Digital Credits ?
The NS55 digital credits, which will be issued in batches from 1 July to 31 July, will have a validity period of one year upon issuance. You will receive the credits via the LifeSG mobile application. Do wait till you receive an SMS notification of the credits being disbursed to you before checking the app.
Once you have received notification of your credits, you can follow the 6-steps below to redeem your NS55 credits.
Step 1: Download the LifeSG app and sign in with your Singpass.
Step 2: Scroll to “Benefits and Support”.
Swipe to “NS55 Credits”.
Step 3: Tap “Scan QR code to pay”.
Step 4:Scan the merchant’s PayNow UEN / NETS QR or Upload saved QR via the photo gallery.
Step 5: Enter / Confirm the amount to pay and slide to confirm.
Step 6: A confirmation screen will appear for successful transactions.
If you find that your NS55 credits are insufficient for your transaction, you may need to pay the difference using other modes of payment that the merchant may accept (e.g. cash, debit/credit cards). You would not be able to top up your NS credits using your own funds.
Alternatively, you could also choose to top up your e-commerce wallets like ShopeePay if the item that you are purchasing on the platform is in excess of the NS55 credits. Select to top up your e-wallet and confirm PayNow as the top-up option. Use the QR code taken on LifeSG and transfer the intended amount. This way, you could make your online payments in excess of your balance in NS55 credits.

Where Can You Redeem The Credits?
You can use the NS55 digital credits to make payment at any online/physical merchant accepting payment by “Scan and Pay” via PayNow UEN QR or NETS QR. Though you would be able to do so if thePayNow QR is registered to the merchant’s personal mobile number or NRIC.
You can use the NS55 credits at heartland shops, hawker centres, and even on e-commerce platforms like Shopee, Qoo10, and Amazon. You could make payments to government agencies and to educational institutions.
